The Complete South Beach Park Travel Guide

South Beach at Vero Beach

Florida’s South Beach Park could be your next beach destination. By Jules Romero.

Known as the Hamptons of Florida, South Beach Park at Vero Beach is an under-the-radar tropical escape for those who want to relax away from the more popular beaches of Florida.

On this barrier island, you’ll find everything from lovely boutique shops to parks and wildlife refuges. Due to the beach’s lowkey nature, you’re more than likely to set your eyes upon 26 miles of uncrowded sand the next time you visit.

The community is well known for its rich and varied recreational activities, which include kayaking, fishing, surfing, polo, and much more. By the time you finish reading this guide, you’ll know exactly how to make the most of your next visit to South Beach Park.

When to Visit South Beach Park

The busiest month for tourism in South Beach Park is March, followed by July and February. Prices for flights and accommodations will be the priciest during these months, though you may be able to snag some discounts if you purchase well in advance.

Many tourists are unlikely to visit South Beach Park in October. Therefore, those willing to make a trip to South Beach Park in October will most likely find it the least expensive month.

Weather

Average temperatures in South Beach Park may vary. If you’re seeking to visit the beach during the hottest months of the year, you should plan your trip for either August, July, or June.

The weather at South Beach Park reaches its warmest in early to mid-August with highs of 33.7 degrees Celsius and lows of 23.6 degrees Celsius in the evening.

How to Get There

The closest airport to South Beach Park is the Orlando Melbourne International Airport (MLB), which is just 43 miles away from the beach. The airport serves flights to and from domestic and international locations. However, only a select few airlines operate out of Orlando Melbourne. Check out the best flight deals.

The airport offers free wifi throughout its terminals, as well as pet assistance and Space Coast Credit Union ATMs. If you crave for food during your stay at the airport, you’ll be glad to know that MLB has many foods and beverage options such as Dunkin’ Donuts and Lucky’s Bar.

There are many transportation options to carry you to the beach or hotel. However, the easiest way to reach South Beach Park and the surrounding accommodations is by car. You can opt to rent a car directly from the car rental companies at the airport, or take an Uber.

Where to Stay in South Beach Park

At the northern point of downtown Vero Beach is the Kimpton Vero Beach Hotel & Spa. It wraps all the ideals of a tropical getaway in one package.   This South Beach Park resort offers a pool, spa, outfitter, and excellent bars and restaurants. Also, the resort has partnered up with a local coordinator to participate in sea turtle watches during the nesting months of March to October.

Where to Eat

Start your day with breakfast at Lemon Tree, a quaint cafe specializing in lemon-blueberry pancakes.

Then, end your day with dinner at Cobalt. It’s a restaurant that mixes Venezuelan touches on fresh seafood.

Activities in South Beach Park

1. Visit the Riverside Theater

The Riverside Theater is a massive performing arts center capable of seating hundreds of visitors.

The theater hosts and produces many Broadway shows throughout the year. Also, they offer live music and stand-up comedy.

What makes the Riverside Theater unique is its on-site bar and restaurant, known for its cold drinks and hearty fare.

2. Hike Along the Seagrape Trail

The Seagrape Trail is one of the less popular attractions at South Beach Park. It gives tourists access to rugged stretches of shoreline. You’ll be glad to note that many of the patches of sand along the Seagrape Trail are turtle hatcheries. These areas may be restricted during certain months, so be sure to check in advance.

3. Visit the Vero Beach Museum of Art

The Vero Beach Museum of art is renowned for its five distinct galleries spread over more than 50,000 feet of real estate.

The museum focuses on prominent state and national artists. Although much of what the museum displays are contemporary, there are a few more dated artworks as well.

During your visit, you’ll be able to see paintings, sculptures, and art glass. Also, there’s a famous wing in the museum that specializes in educational and community outreach programs.

4. Shop at Vero Beach Outlets

Of course, the main attraction of your trip to South Beach Park would be your visit to the full sandy shore. However, storms or extreme heat waves may ruin your beach plans. When that happens, consider finding shelter and indulging in retail therapy at the Vero Beach Outlets.

The outlet center includes hundreds of renowned stores such as Bass, Williams-Sonoma, and Nike. Also, most of the braches you’ll find at the Vero Beach Outlets offer significant discounts compared to standard retail prices.

5. Take a Trip to the Farmers’ Market Oceanside

The Farmers’ Market Oceanside is relatively new compared to the other farmers’ markets in the state. However, it has been able to attract quite a loyal following. Aside from fresh and seasonal produce, sellers offer meat & dairy products, arts & crafts, and health & body products.

Similar to many other farmers’ markets, visiting The Farmers’ Market Oceanside is as much of a social event as it is a shopping opportunity. Operating hours are from eight in the morning until noon on Saturdays.

Dog owners will love the market, too. The market is dog-friendly. However, dog owners must leash and clean up after their dogs.
